The last Unspunnenfest was held on 1 – 3 September 2006. It had been scheduled to take place in 2005 but had to be postponed due to flooding on a catastrophic scale in and around Interlaken. Reprinted below is a brief review by OC President Ueli Better…
The Unspunnenfest is a festival of encounters, a meeting place for people from all over Switzerland, with its rich and colourful heritage of customs and culture. And so the Unspunnen Stone was thrown and competitors measured their might in the alpine wrestling ring while others danced, sang, yodelled and made music, all in traditional costumes. They did so for their own pleasure and also to the delight of all the guests with a keen interest in keeping Swiss folklore and customs alive. The festival with all its events had something to offer everyone. From the big folklore evening, the displays of folk dancing in traditional costumes, the yodelling concert and the alpine wrestling to the spectacular festival procession and celebrations. For three whole days Interlaken was the festival venue for Swiss folklore.
