Hiking
Interlaken and the surrounding Bernese Oberland, is a hiking paradise. Whether you want to hike around lakes, traverse mountain passes, or climb to lofty mountain tops, the options are endless. Just don’t be surprised to find a restaurant when you get to the top of your hike or a train track down the back.
Before you leave on any hike be sure to check with our reception or ticket desk for up to date information regarding track closures, weather forecast and maintenance. Balmer’s provides free hiking maps of the area and expert advice as well as train ticket sales to get you up there!
From the hostel door you can be padding your way along a path through tranquil forest in less than five minutes, or on your way up the nearest peak in fifteen minutes.
All hiking trails are marked with yellow information signs with destination and average hiking times. Higher in the mountains tracks may also be marked with a two white strips with red in the middle, often painted on rocks and trees. If you are still following these then don’t worry, you’re still on the right track.
So what are you waiting for? Get a map, check the track, pack a lunch, camera, sun cream, water and enough warm clothes and hit the open road!
