INTERLAKEN & SURROUNDS
Interlaken, as the name says, nestled
between two beautiful lakes. The gateway to the Jungfrau region.
The main street is the long “Höheweg” with a train station at
each end (Interlaken Ost and Interlaken West), And the center of
the Höheweg is the Höhematte, A Large green meadow with vies
towards the mountains. Often filled with roaming cows or
landing Paragliders - there is always something happening on the
Höhematte..... The Höheweg is full of Souvenir stores and
Interesting shops...
Visit the Chocolate Factory and become a chocolatier!
The chocolate show is held Mon – Fri at 4, 5, and 6 pm at Grand
Restaurant Schuh at Höheweg 56, on the Höhematte.
Duration of the show is 20 minutes. Entrance fee CHF 10.-
(redeemable on purchase or consumption of min. CHF 10.- at the
Restaurant Schuh or any of the Kirchhofer stores!).
SBB Historic Foundation
Exhibition at
Rugenparkstrasse 24 (close to Interlaken West Station - open
only in summer from April 29th until October 21st ) will connect
you to more than 150 years of Swiss railway history. An
exhibition not only for a railway buff, but also for a rail
engineer, a transportation historian or just plain lover of
trains (with model railway exhibition). Open daily from 11 am –
5 pm (July until mid-August from 10 am – 5 pm); admission CHF
10.-
Spend a day in the saddle, A bike saddle...
You can rent a bike right here at Balmer's and spend a sunny day
exploring the bödeli (Greater Interlaken Area). There is an
amazing amount of things to see on the flat valley floor, or it
you are a little more adventurous you can pick up a biker’s map
about the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau area, with over 400 km of
bike-roads, is available from Balmer's or at Interlaken’s
tourist office.
The St-Beatus-Caves, Switzerland's first and only underground
cave museum - spectacular but safe. Explore
this mysterious maze of stalactites, stalagmites, lakes and
waterfalls to a depth of 3,000 metres. From Interlaken by ship,
car, bus - or on foot along the historic pilgrims' path (1 hour
walk from Interlaken). Open April 9th – Oct 15th , 1.30 – 5 pm.
It can get cold in the caves, so bring something warm to wear.
Schweiz. Freilichtmuseum Ballenberg -
This unique museum offers a
fascinating insight into Swiss rural dwellings and lifestyles
dating back several centuries. The many attractions include some
90 buildings, farm animals, plus demonstrations and displays of
farming trades and traditional crafts. It is a short
scenic train ride to Ballenberg.

Trümmelbach
Gletscherwasserfälle
- Ten glacier waterfalls tumbling within a
mountain are illuminated and accessible by tunnel-lift. The
Trümmelbach alone empties the huge glacier gorges of the Eiger,
Mönch and Jungfrau and
transports 20,000 tons of boulder detritus yearly from a
drainage area of 24 square km. These are the only accessible,
mountain-interior glacier falls in Europe.

Harder
Kulm - From
Interlaken it is only a matter of minutes to the Harder Kulm.
This attractive vantage point offers fine views of the Bernese
Oberland "capital" (between the Lakes of Brienz and Thun) as
well as the entire Jungfrau Region. Particularly popular with
children are the trip to the top by funicular and the Alpine
wildlife park at the valley station, near Interlaken Ost railway
station.

Swiss Dinner Cruise
- Spectacular views of mountain peaks and soft slopes with
typical Swiss chalet villages along the shores of the deepest
Lake in Switzerland – all that and more adds to the special
